What a fantastic idea!! I have a Sally's nearby and will have to give that a try. Sounds like it will work for lots of things, not only hoops!

I learned from this post and appreciated your method. I would like to share what I use. It is a product called Sure Clean and came from a Beauty Supply place (Sally's). It was recommended to me by my local quilt shop and cost $9.99 USD but is worth every dime. I only use a small amount on a cotton disc (99 cents from the dollar store) or even a baby wipe if I am cleaning other things and it removes all kinds of residue. It comes only in a large bottle 473 ml or 16 fl oz. but the quilt shop has had their bottle for years. I just bought mine last year and it looks as if I have enough for another long, long time. It is called an all surface cleaner on the bottle by GiGi if that helps anyone. Works for the iron, hoops, machine, tables, stickers, candle wax, etc.
