The Floral Elegance Quilt is a beautiful machine embroidered quilt that incorporates machine embroidery in addition to decorative stitches. The rich colors can be stitched on satin or cotton fabric for a lovely addition to your home.

Floral Elegance was designed by Judy Nowicki. Although instructions are provided for completing the project, it’s always easier and more fun to stitch the quilt in a class full of eager stitchers and someone leading you through it step-by-step. In completing the quilt through this online class, you can work at your own pace through each block. This will be a hands-on online class, taking you step-by-step through each and every area of creating the quilt, from starting to pick out fabrics to completing the quilting, binding and label!

I will be sharing my favorite products I use for machine embroidery and my own tips and techniques I have learned throughout my many projects. You will gain loads of information that you can use with so many other projects!

This new quilt is called Floral Elegance. It’s a beautiful set of designs that I am confident you will enjoy stitching. The embroidery design collection can be found here. And the original quilt as designed by Judy Nowicki is shown below.

This is the original design. However, I am making some changes. Big surprise, huh? ;) I am inserting a center medallion, enlarging the entire quilt, adding a few decorative stitches and moving design elements around a bit. Therefore, the designing process is taking a bit longer than my desire, but it is getting there. Below I have a few photos from what I’ve stitched and am still in the process of designing.

I am stitching my blocks on ivory satin in shades of purple, but of course, you can choose your own fabric and colors. I’ve stitched this block on fairy frost fabrics which I absolutely love using and it’s just as beautiful!

The class start date is March 1st! All the class info with fabric requirements, kits, schedule, etc. will be available by February 1st. As with my previous online classes, this will be a monthly class that will take a year to complete. You’ll learn more valuable stitching techniques in addition to creating another heirloom quilt to add to your collection!

Last May something monumental happened in my life and I was suddenly engaged to a wonderful guy! Really, Luke did surprise me with the most wonderful of surprises by asking me to marry him on my birthday–the best birthday gift he could have ever given me! We set a wedding date for May 21, 2011 and the last few months have been filled with planning for that important date!

Not only will I be getting married in May, but also moving six hours away from where I am right now. In light of all that and with my second Latte Quilt class ending last fall, I decided to take a brief break from teaching during this time and wait to get back into the swing of classes in the fall of 2011. Soooo…..that’s where I am at right now! You may hear bits and pieces from me in the next few months, but it will be this summer before regular posts and activity in preparation for fall classes start.

For those of you who are wondering about the MarJen for Error and Latte Quilt dvds, they are in process. :) Those are two online quilt classes I taught over the last several years and my goal is to have them available to you via dvd. I’ve had such an overwhelming response to those classes and requests to teach them again, that I’m offering that way and then moving on to teach another online quilt.

As to when those dvds will be available? Hopefully this summer. If you would like updates and info into those dvds and classes, you can sign up for my class newsletter here, which will be sent out as things progress.

A new embroidered quilt?! Yes, that’s my goal! Starting next fall, I will start teaching the Floral Elegance Quilt. You can see some info here, but there are some changes I will be making to the quilt design verses the layout Judy has done with the original quilt! :) Coming this summer will be class schedules, supply lists and a few sneak peek block pics! Again, if you are signed up for my newsletter, you will receive updates and info as they become available! For those of you who have participated in my classes in the past, this class will be structured the same way with online videos and in depth written instructions as to how to complete each block. More info will be coming this summer!

THANK YOU to so many of you for your past participation in my classes and upcoming classes this year! My quilting/embroidery time has been limited and I’m eager to get back into the swing of teaching and stitching this summer!

One of the unique stitch details about this design is that the vines running between the florals is a running stitch repeated over and over until the appropriate thickness is achieved. Most designs are digitized with a satin stitch in this area rather than a straight running stitch which gives it a heavier and unique look.

And to answer the question that many of you have been asking…..yes, these are the designs that I will be using in the next online quilt I will be teaching! :)

There are instructions included on the cd for a quilt, but I am making some changes and revisions for the quilt I will be teaching. I will be using some of the block layout designs, but adding a center medallion, adding some decorative stitches and increasing the amount of embroidery in the border of the quilt from what is pictured in the quilt on the cd. More details will be coming in the next few weeks.

EDIT as of September 2010: I do not have a starting date as to when I will be starting this new quilt as right now I am still working on stitching out the blocks and designing the quilt top. I have taken the next few months off from teaching as I am getting married in May 2011 and will be moving at that time as well. My goal is to start this new quilt in the fall of 2011! So stay tuned over the winter months to updates on the blocks and pieces as I’m able to design and stitch each one!
