An alternative to starch – Mary Ellen’s Best Press
By Serena Nabeta | April 2, 2009
Since we have been talking about pressing and starching, Crystral dropped me a note to mention that she uses Mary Ellen’s Best Press as an alternative to traditional liquid or spray starch.
I’ve used Best Press multiple times and do love it!!! It does not leave the white residue that traditional starch will. For me personally, I usually press my fabrics on the wrong side and that is where I spray my starch, so the white flakes that appear do not bother me that much. But for pressing on the right side of fabric for any reason, Best Press is the way to go!
Anyone that I have talked to loves Mary Ellen’s Best Press…any other thoughts on the traditional starch vs. Best Press?

I have both types of starches. While I see the advantages of Mary Ellen’s Best Press I just can’t get over how strong the smell is. I like lavender I really do but this starch is way too fragrant and the smell stays on the fabric forever it seems. This would not be good for those sensitive to strong smells and perfumes, babies and young ones, or anyone not fond of lavender. I knew it had a scent when I purchased it but had I known how very strong and long lasting the smell lasts I would have saved the money and not purchased it. I can only hope she comes out with a non-scented version of this starch and soon.

Anyway, I wanted to say that my lqs had some of the other scents – Cherry Blossom, Caribbean Beach, and the lavendar. The Caribbean Beach smells sssoooooo wonderful! It’s weird because I bought a small bottle and used some of it and the scent didn’t stay on the fabric like the lavendar did. In fact, it’s like the heat of the iron made it disappear completely. The Cherry Blossom was super strong so I can’t attest to it disappearing or staying forever like the CB or lavendar.
