Hello! My name is Serena Smith and I am owner of
Embroidery Treasures. I love anything and everything
that involves sewing and fabric! My desire to sew
started small and grew into something I love doing every
single day!
As a young girl, my first attempt at sewing came from my
Grandmother. Whenever I would visit her, a bag of quilt
scraps was brought out with a needle and thread. I would
spend hours hand stitching various shaped scraps
together. This grew into designing and stitching doll
clothes. As time flew by I would be found clipping pictures
from magazines and creating various outfits for my
dolls. My first business endeavor "Serena's Frocks &
Frills" was developed. I sold doll outfits varying from
cowboy costumes to bridal gowns, totaling over 20 styles
of clothing.
At age 16, I began working in a fabric store. Not only
did the store sell fabric, notions and Bernina sewing machines,
but also specialized in custom sewing. I was able to
learn many things about the fabric and sewing machine
industry. The custom sewing varied from simple
alterations of pants and jackets to altering and making
formal dresses and bridal gowns.
A year later, I was able to purchase my first
embroidery/sewing machine -
a Bernina artista 180e. I
fell in love with machine embroidery. My addiction grew
by adding digitizing computer software and more
machines. Now I could design, stitch and embellish
whatever idea was swirling in my head. I was delighted!!
In February 2002, I began teaching sewing and embroidery
classes. I discovered another area where I could create
and design projects and share my love of sewing and
embroidery with others. My classes consisted of basic
sewing, quilting, embroidery and computer software
techniques. Showing others the possibilities that can be
attained through designing, quilting and embroidery is
very rewarding!
So in February 2006, I started this website. My desire is
to provide fellow stitchers with quality fabric,
notions, embroidery supplies and helpful patterns and
books. Not only do we seamstresses need the tools to
create projects, but also inspiration. You'll find
helpful tips and ideas with project photos to keep your
mind flying with possibilities.
I am so thankful for the talent of designing, sewing and
teaching that God has given me. Thankfully, God has also
given me the support of my loving family, who continue
to give me their opinion - whether good or bad. Thank you
to those who taught me many techniques along the way!
And a special thank you to those ladies who sat through
my first few classes when I was still learning the art
of teaching. Because of the encouragement and
inspiration I received, I can now pass that knowledge on to
others.
